SMRR members:
It made us both very proud when more than 200 of you joined us for the annual Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights Convention last November to elect anew SMRR Steering Committee.
Through your efforts the leadership of SMRR remains staunchly pro-rent control, pro-affordable housing and committed to a policy of smart slow growth that gives our city both prosperity and livability. Thank you to those who attended and participated.
All of this came on the heels of a hotly contested City Council election in November, 2014 that saw SMRR endorsed candidates win 2 out of 3 seats, re-creating a smart, slow growth majority that has been the hallmark of Santa Monica governance whenever SMRR has held a true majority.
However, 2016 is another election year and pro-development advocates are hoping for a rebound. In November 2016 four SM City Council seats will be up, including the seats of Mayor Tony Vazquez and Mayor Pro Tempore Ted Winterer. See a note from each in this issue. We urge all SMRR members to stay tuned, get involved, and be ready to mobilize to defend the victories we have won. Thank you!
