Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis, changes in law affecting renters have been enacted on the federal, state, and local levels.  SMRR will be hosting a Live Webinar on Tuesday April 7th at 10:30AM to share information with the Santa Monica renter community about these changes, including the City of Santa Monica’s executive orders regarding rent payments and evictions.

  • Have you heard that the City, State and federal governments all have enacted temporary “eviction moratoria” but aren’t sure whether or how any of this affects you?
  • Do you have questions about whether you remain obligated to make rent payments during the current emergency?
  • Are you unsure about what steps to take to protect yourself if you are unable to pay your rent due the coronavirus health crisis?
  • Do you know where to turn for advice if you receive a notice, a demand, or an eviction lawsuit from your landlord?

Our panel of experts from the City Attorney’s Office and from various legal services organizations will answer these questions, and more.

If you know someone who would like to receive email reminders from SMRR please tell them to send an email to [email protected], and we’ll add them to our mailing list.

SMRR cannot provide legal advice, but SMRR is committed to providing Santa Monica renters with information to better understand their rights. We’re taking all precautions to stay safe and healthy at home, but the current health crisis won’t slow us down. This is a challenging time for our community and so we will keep striving to do our part to help our neighbors navigate these uncertain times. Please remember to stay at home unless you’re going out for essential needs. Remember to keep at least 6 feet of distance between you and others around you, and do your part to cover your nose and mouth, and practice frequent handwashing.
